Christene Hoppes, 89, of Liberty, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2022. She was born on July 10, 1932 to the late Luther and Lula Stapleton Cook in Jackson County, Kentucky.

On August 1, 1970 Christene married Gerald Hoppes in Harrison, Ohio.

Christene was a remarkable homemaker to her large family. Caring for her husband, children and grandchildren was a joy that she did with love and grace. In the spring and summer months, she would be found growing vegetables in the garden, or canning for future family dinners; she also enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens. As Christene became a grandmother, she loved to spend time with her growing family and watching her grandchildren become their own individuals.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Gerald. Christene will be deeply missed by her children, daughters: Patricia (Douglas) Benson, Shelia Childers, Beverly Hollowell, Alma Baker, Tina (Ken) Redding, and Kimberly Eyler (Ronnie Rose), Beverly Jones, and Becky (Rodney) Ripberger; sons, Larry (Judy) Baker, and Rodney (Lisa) Hoppes. Christene's sisters, Mary Jean Schell, Janet Sprague, and Joyce Bush will greatly miss her.

Her memory will be cherished forever by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Christene is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Rudolph, Raymond, Donald, and Herschel Cook; sisters, Catherine Hicks, and Myrtle Rohrer, and Sons-in-law: William Childers, Todd Hollowell, and Jim Jones.

Visitation for Christene will be on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 10 N Main Street, Liberty, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm with the burial at Westpoint cemetery following.
