Franklin County varsity track traveled to the UIndy state indoor qualifier Friday, with senior Jacob Schatzle winning the long jump competition with a leap of 21 feet, 6.75 inches. This places him 2nd statewide.

Schatzle is also 4th in state rankings in pole vault (11-6), 5th in the 60 meter dash (7.2) and joins Christian Stortz, Adam Grant and Tyreke Carr in ranking 6th in the 4x200 relay (1:38.81). Stortz is 6th in the 60 (7.27) and teams with Carr, Grant and Owen Harvey for 7th in the 4x400 (3:51.22).

Senior Jenna Bruns ranks 9th in high jump (4-10). Chloe Heffron is 13th in pole vault (7-6) and the 4x400 team of Esther George, Maddie Merritt, Dani Bulach and MacKenzie Brzezinski sits at 16th (4:44.4). Audrey Harper is 18th in long jump (14-10).

FC took the junior varsity to the East Central indoor track and field invitational Saturday.

Freshman Ella Flannery won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 8 inches. Classmate Emma Rosenberger was runner-up in the long jump, touching down in 14-1.5. Sophomore Hannah George was third in high jump at 4-4 and senior Soraya Goergens took third in long jump (13-6.75). The girls medley relay team placed sixth.

Athletes are attempting to place in the top-18 statewide before March 22 in order to qualify for the indoor state meet at IU on March 26.
