A coaches meeting determined the competition order...Winchester, Tri High, Hagerstown, Northeastern, Centerville, Lincoln, Union County.
“The girls were unhappy that we were last,” UC coach Aimee Dishmond said. “Each coach just drew out a number and mine was seven.”
Union County’s eight-member Cheerleading Competition Team members include: Abbigail Hampton, Maura Pegg, Emily Hurst, MyKenzie Fields, Harleigh Keasling, Lyllian Pentecost, Kaleah Louden, Lillian Fields.
“They are the ones who volunteered --wanted to do this,” Dishmond said. “They have been practicing since the end of January – four days a week, Saturday, 9 to 1. I’m proud of them.”
The competition began about 7:05 p.m. after the introduction of teams, announcements and the National Anthem.
Cheerleading squads come in all sizes, which was evident at the TEC competition. And as it turned out, large squads were the first to put their program before the judges. Programs vary as well. Many of the TEC squads were co-ed and incorporated pom-poms, signs, flags, acrobatics, etc. and included multiple coaches.
So the competition began with the Winchester Falcons, and as it turned out, the first to perform was the first-place squad at the end.
Lincoln athletic director Rob Bills announced the first three teams beginning at the bottom – “In third-place, Centerville. In second-place, Lincoln High School. The winner of the 2022 TEC Cheerleading Competition – the Winchester Falcons.”
