“They picked a great day to be their best,” said head coach Joe Davidson. “Nearly everyone who competed ran a personal record and finished better than their seed.”
Senior Jacob Schatzle medaled in all four of his events.
He was bested by only one other competitor in the long jump competition. His top leap of 21 feet, 1.75 inches trailed that of Calumet's Terrell Caldwell (21-11.5). This was the highest individual finish in FC history. Classmate Chad Cox finished in the top 10 at 9th, springing for 19-11.75. Cox also excelled in the high jump, placing fourth after clearing the bar with a new school record at 6-4. Schatzle was also doing well in the pole vault lane, taking 7th overall following his effort of 12 feet even.
The boys 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Owen Harvey, juniors Harmon Marshall and Christian Stortz and senior Adam Grant ran 13th (3:42.81; school record!). In the 4x200 relay, Schatzle teamed with seniors Grant and Tyreke Carr as well as Stortz to place 7th (1:35.45) with a new school record.
FC finished 5, 6 in the 60-meter dash as Schatzle was fifth in 7.18 seconds and Stortz crossed the line next at 7.19 (personal record).
The Lady Wildcats also had a presence at the event.
Senior Jenna Bruns qualified in the high jump arena. She tied for 12th with a height of 4-10. In the 4x400 relay, juniors Kamryn Dozier, Madison Merritt and Daniella Bulach joined freshman Esther George in placing 16th (4:31.58; season-best). Placing 10th in the 4x200 baton handoffs were Merritt, Dozier, sophomore Audrey Harper and George (1:54.65; season best).
