CW4 Doy Deaton, US Army (Ret.), 94, of Irmo, died on Thursday, April 7, 2022. Born in Bowlington, on September 12, 1927, he was raised in a large family of 9 children.
CW4 Deaton went on to serve in the United States Army where he was awarded numerous medals including 3 Purple Hearts, 5 Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. His passion was farming, and he was an avid grower of numerous vegetables.
Survivors include his sons, Michael D. Deaton and Donald M. Deaton (Carrie); grandchildren, Joel and Caroline Deaton; as well as longtime friends, Kathleen Carter and Mac Chapel.
The graveside service with Military Honors for CW4 Deaton was held at 11 o’clock, Friday, April 15th, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
