Lawrenceburg stops Union County, 7-0

Union County came up with more hits than Lawrenceburg last week (8-6) but the Tigers overcame that deficit with a 7-0 victory to improve their record to 10-6.
A good start, 3 runs in the first inning and 2 in the second was met with 2 runs in the sixth inning to seal the game.
Tiger senior pitcher Devin Fluhmann allowed eight hits in seven innings along with five strikeouts and no walks.
John Ridenour opened with four innings on the mound, gave up five hits and five runs and five strikeouts. Ridenour also led the Patriots at the plate with two hits in three appearances.
With the win, Lawrenceburg improved to 10-6. UC dropped to 6-6.

Burdine strong in Patriots’ 19-1 win over Preble Shawnee
What a difference a day makes!
After losing to Hagerstown, 8-1, at home last week, Union County went on the road to Preble Shawnee and won 19-1 in five innings.
UC’s bats were hot, scoring 19 runs on 16 hits in four innings, compared to 4 hits and one run the previous day.
Eric Burdine was 2-for-2 at the plate, scored three runs and finished with 5 RBI. Mason Stewart was 2-for-4 at the plate, scored 2 runs and had 5 RBI.
The Patriots were off and running scoring four runs in the first inning, six second-inning runs, seven runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to wrap it up.
Winning pitcher Mathew Wooley gave up one hit and no runs over three innings to go with two strikeouts and no walks. Reliever Nate Reffitt finished on the mound for the Patriots.
Three Arrows’ pitchers, Gavin Schmidt, Cooper Roell and Isaac Blankenship, were not successful in stopping Patriot batters.
Schmidt pitched 1-1/3 innings, giving up 4 hits and five runs while striking out one and walking one. Roell went 2 innings and Blankenship 2/3 inning.

Hagerstown stops Patriots, 8-1
Hagerstown’s visit to Bill Webb Field last week was a 8-1 Tiger blowout.
Hagerstown was dominant from start to finish with eight runs, five hits and one error. The Tigers improved to 4-7 and remained undefeated (4-0) in the Tri-Eastern Conference.
Union County struggled from start to finish with one run scored on four hits and eight errors. The Pats evened their season record to 7-7, and 0-3 mark in the TEC.
Hagerstown opened with a run in the first inning and closed out with a run in the fifth inning, but the fourth inning was the convincer. The Tigers sent 10 batters to the plate in the fourth inning, eight became baserunners and six scored.
The Patriots’ run came in the fifth inning with Mason Stewart’s single into left field with one out. One out later, Stewart scored on Blake Richards’ triple to the centerfield fence.
Hagerstown’s Reed Shaffer was the winning pitcher while allowing four hits in 6-2/3 innings to go with 12 strikeouts. Kayne Ervin came on in relief.
Starting pitcher Kyle Sams went 3-2/3 innings for the Patriots allowing six runs on three hits, four strikeouts and two walks.
Wooley finished the third inning with Mason Stewart pitching the final three innings, to finish with four strikeouts, a pair of walks and one run on one hit.
UC will host Tri High on Thursday, May 12 then heads to the four-team Big Cat Classic at Elwood on Saturday, May 14.
