Sanitarian busy in quarter one

Franklin County sanitarian David Fehlinger made 56 stops at food-serving businesses throughout the county for the first quarter of 2022 (January-March). 

Ten of the 25 locations visited in Brookville had a clean report. There were a handful of non-critical violations and three criticals noted. 

The critical citations were an ice machine containing mold on the interior -needing to be fixed immediately –pizza and sandwiches not properly dated for disposal (14 days) and cooked food in a walk-in cooler not dated for holding (immediately).

Non-criticals included dirty can opener blade, milkshake mixers,salt and pepper shakers, soda nozzles in lobby (immediately), hair restraints not worn around exposed food (one day), moldy ice chutes and soda nozzles (immediately), soda dispensers dirty on interior and splash area (one day), surrounding hillside and grounds littered with garbage (three days), dirty Coke/Pepsi nozzles, bathroom door/light switch, equipment handles, microwave, cooler flooring and doors in milk section (one day), dusty ceiling tiles/vent in preparation area (one day), moldy cooler doors/jambs (14 days), dirty fan covers and door jambs in freezer (two days), moldy shelving and doors in milk/juice coolers (two days), dirty soda slides in aisle (30 days), dirty wire shelving in milk cooler (three days), grease drip under ventilation hood (one day);

Also, greasy equipment exterior (three days), dirty kitchen flooring in drive-thru (seven days), no quaternary sanitizer (five days), dirty soda dispenser exterior and splash area in drive-thru (one day), dirty flooring under equipment (three days), sticky soy dispensers on table (one day), dirty flooring in kitchen and storage rooms (14 days), greasy wire racks above 3-compartment sink (two days).

Fehlinger also noted on 17 of the inspections a reminder to clean and sanitize common areas frequently. 
The sanitarian made three stops in Metamora. Of those, one location had a clean report, and two locations were cited for both critical and non-criticals. 

Critical citations requiring immediate fixes were dishwashing machine not cleaning/sanitizing and a prep station holding temperature 8-10 degrees higher than the maximum.

The non-criticals included dirty flooring under equipment (14 days), mold on ceiling/walls of walk-in cooler (seven days) and moldy Pepsi machine ice bin, ice chute and drip tray (immediately). Fehlinger also noted on a report to clean and sanitize common areas frequently. 

Moving to Laurel, inspections were made at eight stops. Three had a clean slate. One site had a certified food handler manager expiration. There were criticals at two locations: moldy ice machine on interior/drop-down shield (immediately) and mouse droppings on bar shelving and scattered throughout back storage rooms (seven days).

Non-criticals were grease drip from ventilation hood (one day), bathroom doors by bar area not self-closing (14 days), dirty refrigerator/freezer doors and handles (three days) and dirty soda nozzles/ice chute (one day). The clean and sanitize common areas frequently tag was hung on five locations.

In Batesville and Oldenburg, Fehlinger made 15 stops; eight of those had clean reports. One site had a lengthy write-up and one critical: considerable number of small flies in the basement (seven days). Non-criticals at this business were dirty bar soda wand and greasy salt, pepper and condiment dispensers on tables (immediately), dirty grease trap and surrounding area (five days), dusty ceiling tiles in kitchen and dirty swinging door into kitchen (seven days) and dirty flooring in walk-in cooler and dirty flooring in basement (littered with trash) – both the latter had 14-day fixes.
