Elwood Baseball Invitational washed out - UC gets 8-6 win

The Union County baseball team traveled (4 hours) to Elwood last Saturday anticipating good competition at the multi-teams Elwood Invitational. Unfortunately, the weatherman was in charge and had different ideas.
The Patriots and Whitko Wildcats played 5 innings before rain arrived and canceled the invitational. The good news is Union County defeated the Wildcats, 8-6, before the rain came.
UC pitchers John Ridenour faced 12 batters, gave up 2 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Mathew Wooley had one strikeout.

Patriots outlast Titans, 18-12
Union County and Tri High needed seven innings before the Patriots staked claim to an 18-12 Tri-Eastern Conference win.
The Patriots scored in all six innings while the Titans put runs on the scoreboard in three-of-seven innings.
Both teams scored in the first inning - Tri 2, UC 1.
The Patriots’ bats took over in the second inning, scoring five runs and a 5-2 lead.
The fourth inning was Tri’s finest – seven runs on 2 hits, 2 walks, stolen bases, and a 9-7 lead before the Patriots came to bat.
The bottom of the fourth was also good for Patriots – 3 runs on three hits, including a Grady Swafford home run before the final out.
Up by one, 10-9, going into the fifth inning, UC retired the Titans, 1, 2, 3, before another Patriot 5-run inning.
Both teams scored three runs in the sixth to set the final score at 18-12 with Tri unable to change the score in the top of the seventh.
UC scored 18 runs on 15 hits and had 14 RBIs.
