Lady Pats come up short 51-38 at Northeastern

The 2-2 Northeastern Lady Knights picked up their first win in the Tri-Eastern Conference with a 51-38 win at Union County last week.
Northeastern needed little time in posting a 16-5 first-quarter advantage and didn’t let up.
“Our kids put in great effort doing everything they can,” UC coach Scott Gray said. “But we need to get better at scoring. When we get better in that area, we’re going to win.”
UC struggled against NE’s size advantage at many positions.
“Teams that are fast as us with great length cause us trouble,” Gray said. “We are really short.”
Union County caught up in the second quarter, out-scored the Lady Knights, 15-8, and stayed even in the third quarter.
“We didn’t shoot well.” Gray said. “Northeastern is a good team and did what they needed to do.”
The Lady Knights came back with 17 points in the last quarter while limiting UC to eight.
“Our kids need to shoot the ball with much more confidence,” Gray said. “Twenty percent 3s and thirty percent 2s is not good enough.”
NE’s 5’6” freshman guard Adysson Kircher was the game’s leading scorer with 14 points. Junior forward Addisen Mastriano (6’3”) helped out with 11 points. Senior Carly McCashland led UC with 11 points. The Lady Pats fell to 1-2.
“Our schedule is tough,” Gray said. “Northeastern’s good, Franklin County is going to be tough. We need to learn and get better.”
