Union County handed Knightstown a 59-21 loss and Connersville a 45-36 setback at last week’s 3-way meet at Connersville.

With one senior, four juniors, six sophomores and one freshman, the 2022 Patriots are off to a good start. Knightstown forfeited nine matches, Union County three. In the UC, Connersville match, Connersville gave up two forfeits and the Patriots three.

UC wrestlers’ 3-way meet overall win/loss summary including wins by forfeit...Sayre Fitzpatrick 1-1, Cal Rudnick 2-0, Landon Myers 2-0, Jesus Aquino-Morales 2-0, Carson Whitley 1-1, Noah Riffett 1-1, Evan Wolf 2-0, Noah Mullins 2-0, Jordan Takara 2-0, Leighton Jones 1-1, Matthew Wooley 1-1.

“For me, the most important thing about the first match was to see where we are - mentally, how they handle nerves and jitters,” UC coach Andrew Bryson said. “The first match for new wrestlers is a big deal. Wrestling is not like other teams where you can hide behind other players. It’s just you in the middle of the ring with a referee and an opponent. So there is no-where to hide.”

To say the UC coach was pleased is a gross understatement.

“The gym was really packed  and they handled themselves so well,” he said. “The looked better than both teams – better conditioned. Better technically sound.”

There are 14 weight classes. Knightstown’s roster listed eight wrestlers, Union County12 and Connersville 23.

“It’s nice to go into a gym with a clear goal that you are going to win,” Bryson said. “I expected them to win. They kind of controlled the match. And I expect them to beat Richmond this week.”

Patriots at Milan
After the dual match with Richmond on Nov.  30, Union County wrestlers will wrestle at the 6-way Milan Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 3, and the Richmond Invitational Dec. 10.

Come on out and back the Patriot wrestlers and coaches!
