Lady Patriots battle at sectional

Union County’s volleyball season ended last week at the IHSAA Knightstown Volleyball Sectional. The Northeastern Lady Knights turned back the Lady Patriots in three close sets, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23.
Union County and Northeastern battled from the first serve to the final serve. The score rarely varied more than 3-4 points at any one time followed by tie after tie and the lead changing with each serve.
“I think you spend all season preparing for the post-season tournament. We did so with our practices, our match schedule, and our tournament schedule,” UC coach Allison Kassens said.
Northeastern needed extra points to win the first set , 26-24, and came back with 25-23 wins in the second and third sets.
“Last night just wasn’t a good night for UC volleyball,” Kassens said. “Ultimately, I’m proud of our program - what it has done and what is to come.”
Game 2
The Hagerstown Lady Tigers defeated the Knightstown Lady Panthers (3-0) 25-7, 25-7, 25-20 to advance to the championship match.
Game 3
Northeastern advanced to Game 3 and defeated the Lady Raiders (3-0) 25-14, 15-16, 25-17.
Championship Game
Northeastern and Hagerstown needed four sets to determine the sectional champion.
Northeastern won the first set, 25-19, but dropped the second set, 23-25. The Lady Knights returned to win a pair of consecutive sets, 26-24 and 25-20.
