Union County was host to a quad cross country meet last week with Monroe Central, Winchester and Union City. Monroe Central finished first in both girls and boys races. Winchester was second and the Union City boys were third-placers.
Union County doesn’t have full teams, but that doesn’t prevent them from competing on the cross country course and doing well. Union City also did not field a complete girls team.
Marissa Young and Johanna Nelson finished sixth (25:01) and seventh (25:26) among 23 female finishers to lead the Lady Patriots. Both times were personal bests for both senior athletes on the redesigned course behind the Union County Middle School.
Four Monroe Central girls crossed the finish line 1, 2, 3 and 4 with freshman Avery Thomas turning the best time - 23:48.
The Patriot boys ran in a pack with senior Jack Hodgkin finishing the course in 24:26, Landon Klingman 25:08 and freshman Wyatt Pearson 25:26.
Monroe Central junior Eli Chamberlain was the boys race winner in 18:34 and followed closely by senior teammate Caden Landis at 18:51.
