After defeating North Decatur early last week in an 11-1 under the 10-run rule, the Union County Lady Patriots came back with a repeat performance against Hagerstown in a Tri Eastern Conference 12-2 victory in five innings.

Winning pitcher Bailey Mathews struck out 7, walked 3, gave up 2 runs, on 5 hits, to post the TEC victory.

Hagerstown found it difficult to put runners on base from the beginning and did not circle the bases until the fourth inning. Ally Gray, Annalea Adams drew walks ahead of Shelby Hill’s home run drive over the left field fence. Bingo, a 3-0 lead. Mathews reached first on a shot to right field and Whitney King’s hit brought Mathews home. UC’s 4-0 four inning lead was just the beginning.

Gray led off with a double in the second inning and scored when Adams singled. The Lady Patriots took a break in the third inning but returned full force with three runs in the fifth inning and slammed the door on a 12-2 victory with 3 runs in the fifth inning.

The Lady Patriots improved to 4-0 this season and 1-0 in the Tri Eastern Conference.

Junior Hannah Pyle was 2of 3 at the plate and shared pitching duties with sophomore Rylan Young.

Hagerstown dropped to 0-3 and 0-1 in the TEC. UC is currently 7-0.
