MT. SUMMIT – UC baseball suffered its first loss of the '23 campaign Thursday at Blue River Valley, falling to the Vikings 3-1. BRV scored twice in the first inning and pushed another across in the third. The Pats' lone run came in the sixth on Kyle Sams' solo shot. Other hits for UC included singles by Eric Burdine and Mason Stewart. Garrett Grim hit a homer for the Vikes.

Sophomore Coleton Wicker started for the guests and lasted three frames, walking two and punching out four. Stewart tossed three scoreless in relief with four strikeouts.

GREENSBURG – The Pats run-ruled host North Decatur Tuesday, topping the Chargers 12-2 in five innings. UC posted four runs in the night's first at-bat, then added five in the fourth and three more in the fifth to seal it. ND scored single runs in the second and third stanzas.

The visitors smacked seven extra-base hits (six doubles) with Sams leading the way with a pair. He and Burdine collected three RBI each; Sams had three knocks, as did Stewart (2 RBI). Wicker and Logan Boone knocked in two each and Devyn Shepherd added two hits (2b, 3b). Boone, Shepherd, Sams and Josh Klein each stole a base.

Stewart won on the mound, walking three and whiffing five across four frames. Mathew Wooley threw an inning in relief.
