Lady Patriots end season with six consecutive wins – four TEC

The Union County Lady Patriots closed out the regular season last week with a pair of TEC wins. First Lincoln 53-19 and second a 57-25 win at Centerville. The double victories lift UC to 14-9 this season and 5-3 in the Tri Eastern Conference. Centerville fell to 5-13 and 2-7 in the TEC.
UC’s defense didn’t let the Lady Dogs out of the dog house to score more than 10 points in any one quarter. The Lady Patriot offense put up 21 points in the first quarter and didn’t stop there.
The 21-10 lead went to 31-15 at halftime when 3-point shots (Gray, K.McCashland and Gillman) hit the target from beyond the 3-point arc.
UC closed out the second half with four treys in this order – K.McCashland 2, Hill 1, and C.McCashland 1.
UC sophomore Katie McCashland led all scoring with 19 points, and senior Shelby Hill was also in double figures with 11 points. Hill was also the game’s leading rebounder with 8.
Union County also won the JV game by a landslide, 42-8.

IHSAA Girls Basketball Sectional 41 at Union County began Tuesday of this week at Hagerstown with Hagerstown and Northeastern in Game 1 and Knightstown and Shenandoah in Game 2.
After a pause, the tournament picks up again on Friday, Feb. 3 with Union County taking on the winner of Game 1, and the championship game scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 4 when the Game 2 winner and Game 3 winner battled for the title.
