Sectional Champion Jordan Takara gets the job done

HSAA 160 lb. Sectional Champion Jordan Takara and four other fellow teammates are headed to the 2023 IHSAA Richmond Regional on Saturday, Feb. 4!
Takara won the 160 lb. championship match with a 2:26 pin of Franklin County’s Hayden Newell. Along the way he won a 13-5 major decision over Milan’s Cameron Gilb and pinned (:45) Trey Campbell of Lawrenceburg.
Four wrestlers in each weight class also advanced to the regional round. Noah Reffitt, Matt Wooley, Leighton Jones and Parker Moles failed to win the first two matches and did not advance.
•Union County’s Cal Rudnick placed fifth in the 113 lb. class. He opened with a bye, pinned Connersville’s Dillon Poff (1:01), before losing a 9-6 decision to East Central junior Tyler Stenger. He returned to eliminate South Dearborn’s Cain Hopkins in the match for fifth place.
•UC sophomore Landon Myers placed third at 120 lbs. He began with a bye, pinned Rushville’s Neeko Hodson (2.58), lost to Lucas Richards of Milan and came back in the consolation bracket to with the third-place match.
•Junior Carson Whitley wrestled to fourth-place at 132 lbs. He opened with a bye then pinned (5:51) Lawrenceburg senior Javier Payne, before losing to the eventual champion by a 7-1 decision. Whitley came back with a15-0 tech fall of Zander Schaefer of South Dearborn and a third place finish at 132 lbs.
•UC senior Evan Wolf began with a bye, pinned Rushville’s Denver Campbell before falling to Brayden Tudor of Lawenceburg and rebounded to beat South Dearborn’s Landon Walton by a 12-4 major decision to finish third in the 145 lb. Weight class.
•Jesus “Chewy” Aquino-Morales took 2nd at 126 as EC's Blake Wolf pinned him in the finals. Chewy earlier
pinned Landin Shepherd of Greensburg.
