Union County lost a non-conference battle to North Decatur last week but gained much from the 68-37 loss.
“We outscored them 11-6 in the second quarter.”UC coach Bobby Jones said. “Second half wasn’t that bad and there were good things there, too.”
The Chargers ran up a big lead before UC’s Gavin Davis dropped in a 3-pointer and didn’t stop there. He increased his point total by seven in the second period and another six in the fourth quarter for a team-high 16 point total.
After halftime, ND continued to thrive offensively to take a 51-30 third quarter lead and didn’t let up.
“I don’t have to worry about our guys not playing hard and they understand that they are learning every day they come to practice,” Jones said. “If they can learn to play like that second quarter every game.”
The Chargers give themselves a good start by starting five seniors ranging in height from 6’ to 6’5”.
“They are a good team - 16 wins. They are sound from an established program,” Jones said. “A good performance from the Nobbe kid. His dad is a successful basketball coach.”
At 6’5” senior Lance Nobbe led the team with 18points and 11 rebounds.
