Morales moves into IHSAA State Finals wrestling tournament

Union County’s 126 lb. wrestler Jesus Aquino-Morales is headed to the IHSAA State Wrestling Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis Feb. 17-18.
Morales qualified out of last Saturday’s New Castle Semi-state with a 3-1 record.
The UCHS junior won an 8-5 decision over Caleb Mattingly of Carmel and a 9-3 decision over Hamilton Heights junior Jaylyn Pugh. He lost to Cathedral’s Aden Reyes (2:39) and came back to win a 15-1 tech fall over senior Griffin Ingalls of Fisher to finish fourth in the 126-lb. weight class.
The first four finishers in each weight class advance to the state finals.
Morales, 40-7, will face senior Logan Frazier, 32-2, of Crown Point on Friday, Feb. 17.
Jordan Takara qualified out of the Richmond Regional in the 160 lb. weight class. At the New Castle Semi-state, he earned a 15-3 major decision over Nate Hughes of Indianapolis Lutheran and lost a 4-2 decision to Zionsville’s Chase Wagner.
Carson Whitley was a regional alternate at 132. At New Castle, the junior lost 11-2 to Cathedral’s Josh Johnson.
