Indians hold off Patriots, 72-61
February 22, 2023 at 7:37 p.m.
Union City consistently held leads of 20-plus at halftime and the three quarter mark before trailing the Patriots in the final eight minutes.
Both teams got off to a good start behind a 13-11 start. But the Indians’ second quarter warpath produced 21 points while holding UC to two and a 34-13 halftime edge. Looking for more, Union City ran the score up to 54-32 to start the final eight minutes and the Patriots fought back.
Trailing by 22, UC found improved scoring in the fourth quarter and out-scored the Indians, 29-18.
“We need to put four quarters together,” UC coach Bobby Jones said. “One quarter doesn’t do.”
Union City rosters were filled to capacity – 12 junior varsity players and another 12 on varsity with one senior, Camden Lafuze.
“Number 24 is a good player,” Jones said. “Had trouble defending him.”
At 6’4”, Lafuze is the Indians’ post player who canned 28 points against the Patriots and 18 rebounds.
