The Lady Patriots took part in the Union City Holiday Tournament last week. UC started the tournament off with a loss to Fort Wayne Blackhawk but battled their way back to take fifth place in the two-day event. 

In game one the Lady Pats found themselves up 16-10 after the first quarter with senior Brooke Fields picking up three assists while six different players put up points for UC. They maintained the lead into halftime with Peityn Gillman getting the Lady Pats two deep balls to start the frame. Katie McCashland finished off the quarter from the charity stripe where she gave UC an eight-point lead; it was 28-20 midway. The Lady Patriots' offense struggled in the second half as the eight-point lead was cut to a one-point deficit with the Lady Pats trailing 34-33. UC only managed to score six in the fourth period while the Lady Braves tacked on 12, escaping with a 47-39 win. UC was led in scoring by McCashland with 13, followed by Gillman with 11, Fields 6, Ally Gray 3, Shelby Hill 4 and Hallie Hughes 2.

The Lady Pats' second contest fared better with the Lady Pats getting the come-from-behind win over Purdue Polytechnic. The Lady Pats were down 16-10 after one period but battled back in the second frame and went into halftime down by just one. A McCashland three-point shot at the end of the quarter had UC down 25-24 at the midway point. Hill got two quick baskets to put UC in front 31-27 just three minutes into the third quarter before Purdue battled back. A short run by the Lady Pats finished off the third period with UC on top 38-31. The two squads played an even final frame with each team adding 12 points to their total. The 50-43 UC win advanced the Lady Pats to the fifth/sixth place championship game. UC was led by McCashland with 20 points, Hill and Fields added 12 each, Gillman 3, Gray 2, Hughes 1.

The UC Lady Pats' opponent for the final game was Adams Central, who had made their way into the game after defeating Greenwood Christian 54-15. UC started the game off with 10-3 run led by McCashland draining two three-pointers. The Lady Jets finished the frame with four points and the score after one quarter was UC 14, Adams Central 7. The second quarter momentum stayed with UC as they outscored their opponents 8-5 to go into the half doubling up the Lady Jets with the score 22-11. The Lady Pats maintained a large lead until the final three minutes of the third quarter when the Lady Jets finished the frame on a 7-2 run. UC still led after three quarters, 33-21. The Lady Pats held Adams Central to just seven more points in the fourth quarter while scoring nine and taking the win with a score of 42-28. The Lady Pats were led by K. McCashland with 10 points, Hill 7, Gray and Fields added 6, Carly McCashland and Hughes 4, Nora Robinson 3, Gillman 2. 

UC will be up next on Saturday hosting Eastern Hancock. Junior varsity tips at 6 pm with the varsity game to follow at 7:30 pm.
