When November 2023 rolls around, Union County basketball fans will notice two new faces on the Patriot sidelines for both the girls and boys programs.
Young Jamison Walters, a 2016 Union County High School graduate, has moved up from his position as UCMS head coach to the same spot on varsity. According to his LinkedIn page, Walters earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from IU East in 2020 and has worked with Whitewater Valley REMC for the past six years. Walters played basketball and baseball during his time as a Patriot when he hit .312 his senior year on the diamond. He takes over for Bobby Jones, who compiled a 3-21 mark in his lone year in Liberty.
Another first-time head coach, Joey Sidell, will take the reins for the Lady Patriots. Scott Gray had spent the past 10 years at the helm while collecting a 133-99 overall record. His teams won sectional in 2022 & 2023.
In other area coaching news, Connersville has hired veteran Dave McCollough to head the Spartan boys program. This will be his 40th year overall as a head coach. Stops have included Noblesville, Shenandoah, North Judson and Frankfort with a pair of regional titles among his achievements.
