The Union County Lady Patriots are 13-3 on the season after wins over Lawrenceburg and Richmond last week, a narrow loss to South Dearborn and a shutout win over Tri High Tuesday.

The Lady Red Devils visited April 26 and found themselves down 12-1 after just two innings. Richmond fought back to 13-12 by the middle of the sixth only to see the Patriots pick up two more in the bottom of the frame.

Three-baggers were the name of the game for UC as Carsyn Garrett, Natalie Long and AnnaLea Adams all made it three-quarters of the way around the diamond. Adams also smacked two doubles and drove in two. Shelby Hill and Garrett each had two runs-batted in. Ally Gray, Long, Whitney King, Harly Pilgrim and Bailey Mathews added RBI. King and Adams totaled four hits each.

Mathews went six innings for the win, striking out 10 Devils. Kaiyd Burroughs also pitched a third of an inning, giving up six runs (three earned).

UC is at Eastern Hancock today.

South Dearborn nips Lady Patriots, 6-5

The South Dearborn Lady Knights were slow to start but shifted gears in the sixth inning to edge Union County, 6-5.

Both teams scored early with the Lady Patriots leading 2-1 after the first inning. A pair of UC runs in the third inning put the Lady Pats up 4-1 until  the Lady Knights went up 6-4 on five runs scored in the sixth inning. UC answered with a run in the top of the seventh, but fell short, 6-5.

Hill went 3 for 4 at the plate, three 2-base hits, and one RBI. Adams has two hits, one RBI and scored two runs. King was 2 for 4 and 2 RBI. 

Lady Patriot pitcher Mathews gave up 7 hits, 4 earned runs, 6 strike-outs, and no walks.

Union County fell to 12-3  and South Dearborn picked up their 10th win and six losses.

The IHSAA Girls Softball Sectional #41 at Union County (Eastern Hancock, Hagerstown, Knightstown, Northeastern, Shenandoah, Union County) is May 22-27. Pairings were drawn April 30. UC faces Knightstown.
