The Patriots' baseball team got a huge win over Seton Catholic last Wednesday to improve to 4-9 on the season.

The Seton Catholic Cardinals put up two runs in the first inning Wednesday, while UC was unable to score in the bottom of the inning. A change of tide occurred and a 14-run second inning was the hottest the UC bats have been this season.

Kyle Sams was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame. Eric Burdine roped a double to left field, Sams scored on a wild pitch as Coleton Wicker drew a walk, and Josh Klein tied the game at 2-2 with an RBI single that scored Burdine. Mathew Wooley drew a walk and freshman Isaiah Martinez put the Pats up 4-2 with a two-RBI double. A Devyn Shepherd two-RBI hit was followed by a Mason Stewart single that put the Pats up 7-2. The UC nine batted around and Sams came back up without the Cardinals able to record an out. Sams knocked in Logan Boone, Burdine doubled in a run, and RBI singles from Klein and Wooley got the Pats a nine-run lead. Martinez recorded the first UC out, but no harm was done as he picked up two RBIs on a sacrifice that scored Wicker and Klein. Shepherd doubled, clearing the remaining Pats on base, and UC was up 14-2 after the inning ended.

Burdine kept Seton off the basepaths after the first inning, and through his four innings on the mound, he collected 10 strikeouts, allowed no hits, and walked just two Seton batters.

The UC bats exploded again in the bottom of the fourth inning. Three walks to start the frame got Burdine a pair of RBIs on a single. A bases-loaded walk scored Benton Richardson, and a Martinez double, his second of the game, got the freshman two more RBIs, giving him five on the night. Shepherd swung on the next pitch and a two-RBI double put UC up 21-2. Wicker came in to pitch the final inning and gave up a double to start, but two strikeouts and a groundout gave UC the win. Shepherd and Burdine each collected three hits in the game, and Shepherd also knocked in five RBIs.
