Union County and  Centerville battled through ups and downs in extra innings last week before the Bulldogs rallied to an 11-8 Tri-Eastern Conference win in the 10th inning.

The Patriots put two runners on base in the first inning just in time for an Eric Burdine home run to give UC a 3-0 lead. The Pats added another 3 runs in the third inning and 2 runs in the fourth.

Centerville followed up with one run in the first, and one in the third and fourth and 2 in the fifth inning. UC came up empty in the bottom of the fifth but held on to an 8-5 edge.

Centerville came back with a run in the sixth and 2 in the seventh on a two-run homer to tie the score at 8-8 to begin the eighth inning.

Pitchers on both sides did their stuff in the eighth inning, retiring the both sides one, two, three. Centerville went three up and three down in the ninth before three Pats drew walks to fill the bases with two outs but failed to bring them home.

So, the score was still tied, 8-8, going into the 10th inning.

The Bulldogs didn’t waste any time when the first three batters hit singles and a groundout brought one home. Not satisfied, senior Jacob Crowe’s double scored two runners to take an 11-8 lead. So, in the bottom of the 10th Josh Klein doubled to the left field fence before a strikeout and a pair of fly outs ended the game.

The Bulldogs scored 11 runs on 12 hits. UC finished with 8 runs on 14 hits.
