Netters fall at sectionals

CONNERSVILLE – Union County girls tennis dropped its opening-round match last Wednesday to sectional host Connersville, 5-0.
Peityn Gillman and Hallie Hughes gave Sarah Cogar and Grace Kelly a fight at No. 1 doubles but lost 6-4, 6-4. Julianna Goecke (2 singles) and Gretchen Schlichter (3 singles) got one game apiece off Katie Mitchell and Isabella Starr, respectively. Delivia Patterson (1 singles) and Skyler Legear/Julia West (2 doubles) were shut out by Kerstin Ellis and the duo of Harley Morris and Sophia Starr.
CHS defeated Rushville in the championship for the Spartans' first title in eight years. East Central edged Connersville 3-2 in regional play to set up a regional final of EC-Centerville (22-0).
