George Mason recruit Brant Ertel stymied the Batesville baseball offense Thursday night as the Bulldogs were eliminated by host Franklin County in Sect. 29, 7-0.
Ertel allowed just four baserunners in a complete game shutout and punched out 15 Bulldogs. Starter Jack Grunkemeyer (9 Ks) gave up two runs in the third inning but the defense behind Will Jaisle in the sixth – he also walked four in two frames - allowed the wheels to come off as FC tacked on five unearned runs. Charlie Schebler finished with three strikeouts in 1.1 innings.
Ben Becker had a 3-run triple in FC's sixth, Ertel helped his cause with three hits and two RBI and Trevor Moizuk drove in one. FC's seven runs came despite striking out 16 times.
