Laura Elaine Smith, age 76, of Brookville, died Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati.

Born May 18, 1947 in Corbin, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Steely B. and Dovie Louise (Nantz) Wells.  She was united in marriage to David V. Smith Sr, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 2018.

She was a member of the Scipio United Baptist Church. 

In her leisure time she enjoyed spending time with her family and babysitting her grandchildren.

Survivors include five children, Louise Bargo of Corbin, Elaine (James) Olert of Lexington, Kentucky, Kym Smith of Brookville, Laura (Marty) Galyen of Brookville, David (Charlene) Smith of Brookville; 24 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Georgia Ann Sester of Maysville, Kentucky; as well as her best friend, Brenda Rains of Brookville.

In addition to her parents, and husband, David, she was preceded in death by three daughters, Connie Lynn O'Neill, Annette Hale, Priscilla Brittain; four sisters, Charlotte Wells, Rita Sue Wells, Ada Dean Foster, Edna Jean West; two brothers, Steely Bradford Wells and Edward Lee Wells; a grandson, Chance David Galyen, and a great-granddaughter.

Family and friends may visit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.

Steve West and Mike Shackelford will officiate the funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Scipio United Baptist Church, 7999 Cincinnati Brookville Road, Okeana, Ohio.  Burial will follow in Springfield Cemetery in Bath.
