The Wildcat girls soccer team played South Dearborn last Tuesday without several starters, including #1 ranked player Madesyn Sunderhaus and center back starter Anna Rotert. The heat and humidity also contributed to sluggish play. Junior GK Liz Wendel made 20 saves in the 7-0 loss. Freshman Sammy Bright had the only offensive opportunity.

The backline and midfield were pressed the entire game. Esther George, Mackenzie Brzezinski, Audrey Weaver and rookie Lily Nichols had their hands full but each had brilliant plays. Max Preps Player of the match was Weaver.

The Lady Wildcats played their inaugural game on the new artificial turf field the next day. They had a nice 3-1 win over Milan.

As always, the defense was solid and kept the ball fed to the offense. Brzezinski was particularly quick to the ball and swept the Milan attackers multiple times. Wendel tallied 11 saves including a huge dive to tip out a rocket shot.

The offense had some well executed passing plays and created many opportunities. The first goal came by a pass from Sayla Sacksteder to Bright who scored in the first 3 minutes of the game on her way to Player of the Match. The second goal was a hard shot by Kylee Bolser that deflected to Bright, who scored again 1 minute later. The third goal came in the second half when Bolser again found Sacksteder who finished well.

Evelyn Stoecklin had three gorgeous shots from outside the box. “The freshman owns the deep range and is always a threat,” said coach Cindy Adams.

Izzie Riffle was a playmaker in the center of the field, strong to the ball and controlling the pace with two good shots. McKenna Chinn created another great opportunity with a shot and then followed the deflection to narrowly miss. Sunderhaus came off the injured list and played a quality game with 4 shots (3 on goal), 4 corner kicks and played tough defense.

Batesville edged FC 1-0 Saturday with Elena Kuisel netting the lone goal.

The Lady Wildcats had a good game Monday, beating Centerville 3-1 despite having multiple injuries. The first goal was Riffle to Sunderhaus. The second goal was Bright to Sunderhaus. The third goal was Lillian Ralph to Sunderhaus for the latter's hat trick and Player of the Match honors. Wendel had 4 saves.

Defenders Brzezinski, George, Anna Bryant and Nichols did a tremendous job, per the coach.

FC is at Richmond Thursday.
