FC track opens with sweep

The Wildcat boys swept the top three spots in the 100-meter dash, high jump and discus while winning all three relays.
Jacob Schatzle (11.42-personal record), Hunter Tschaenn (11.71) and Tyreke Carr (11.78pr) were tops in the 100, with Schatzle also winning high jump (5-10); Chad Cox (pr) and Cole Rapp were 2nd and 3rd, respectively, in high jump. Anthony Moore won discus (121-10pr), followed by Cam Smith (111-05) and Chase Bruns (98 ft.-pr).
The 4x100 team of Carr, Schatzle, Sam Westerfeld and Tschaenn won in 44.56 – second-fastest time in school history - and the 4x400 squad of captain Drew Grant, Carr, Denver Meier and Tschaenn raced around in 3:42.25. Grant, Meier and Harmon and Hunter Marshall won the 4x800 (9:12.22).
Other wins came from Meier (400; 55.61), Tschaenn (200; 23.43), Grant (800; 2:20.32), Hu. Marshall (1600; 5:34.54-come-from-behind fashion), Schatzle (long jump; 20-06) and Smith (shot put; 46-9.5).
The Lady Wildcats had relay wins in the 4x100 (Chloe Heffron, Madison Merritt, Grace Kruthaupt, Audrey Harper; 53.46) and 4x400 (Kruthaupt, Merritt, Lauren Kelley, Kamryn Dozier; 4:37.15).
Individual winners were Bailey Parkhurst (discus; 92-05pr), Harper (long jump; 14-00.5), Kelley (1600; 5:56.1/800; 2:34.78), Dozier (400; 1:08.12/200; 29.92) and Kruthaupt (100; 13.74/300 hurdles; 50.13).
Runners-up were Carr (200; 23.75pr), Ha. Marshall (400; 56.41), Grant (1600; 5:35), Zayne Reed (pole vault; 8 ft.), Westerfeld (shot; 43-10pr), Parkhurst (shot; 33-11pr), Hannah George (high jump; 4 ft.-pr), Heffron (pole vault; 7-09pr), Merritt (200; 30.53) and Harper (100; 13.82pr).
Taking third were Owen Harvey (800; 2:27.38pr), Rapp (110 hurdles; 20.94pr), Adam Grant (pole vault; 7-06), Kaitlynn Brunemann (shot; 26-01/discus; 80-02pr) and Kirsten Clark (300 hurdles; 1:03.76).
Coach Joe Davidson commented on a few of his standouts: “Tyreke was very impressive tonight, Drew Grant ran super-focused and Anthony has battled injuries but he's back and better than ever.”
Other PRs were Sophie Garrett (400), Jacy Grimmeissen (100), Clayton Bolser (shot, discus), Rapp (long jump), Phoenix Simons (long jump), Lendon Sizemore (shot, discus), Heffron (100), Maggie Riffle (discus), Owen Darwish (400) and Bruns (shot).
The Greensburg Crossbones Relays took place in the rain Saturday, scaled back without field events or hurdles.
The Wildcat boys impressed by winning the four non-medley relays contested, while the girls fought for a victory in the 4x200.
The boys started by taking the first Crossbones 4x800 in school history. D. Grant was first and ran the fastest split, followed by Ha. Marshall gaining the lead and brother Hunter maintaining; Meier took it home.
The 4x100 unit – Carr, Schatzle, Westerfeld, Tschaenn – won by 50 meters. “It was evident from the gun they had a huge advantage in speed,” said Davidson.
Heffron, Merritt and Kelley started off for the girls 4x2, battling until Kruthaupt finally took the baton and exploded out of the exchange zone to pass the competition.
Similarly, the boys 4x200 won on the final leg. Carr handed to Harmon Marshall, who fed senior Lucas Stacy before Tschaenn “ran down the competition.”
In the day's last race, the 4x400 team of Carr, D. Grant, Meier and Tschaenn fought fatigue to capture a fourth relay win.
Next up is senior night against Richmond on Tuesday.
