Softballers on a great roll

The right-handed hurler posted 16 'Ks' in the scorebook as she struck out the side three times; in each case, the Bulldogs had a runner on third base threatening to score.
Ferman added an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the sixth, scoring leadoff hitter Maci Lake and giving herself one more insurance run. In the next half-inning, Ferman fanned the first two batters and got the Bulldogs' leadoff hitter Jade Hill on a grounder to shortstop to complete the shutout.
Ferman's first Houdini act came in the first as Hill walked and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Centerville's trio of Jocie Collins, Bri Shephard and Drew Tubesing then went down on strikes.
The Wildcats went right to work off Haylee Parker to snap the scoreless tie. Sophomore Kassidy Schell ended up at second after a base hit to left and moved to third on a wild pitch. A strikeout later, sophomore Josie Rolfes was hit by a pitch. Junior Bree Bischoff then drove a ball to the gap in right-center for a 2-RBI triple. She would come home on senior Kloe Bolos' single to left; Bolos subsequently stole second and scored on a base hit by junior Anne Becker.
Centerville put its first two runners on in the top of the second, both drawing bases on balls. A double steal later put each in scoring position. Ferman settled in and fanned Shae Bennett, Malorie Woodruff and Faith Reece in succession.
FC began its half of the second with Lake grounding a single into center before swiping second base. Walks to Schell and Ferman led to Parker being replaced by freshman Harmony Owens. The newcomer got two strikeouts swinging but also served up a wild pitch that sent Lake in with FC's fifth run. A walk to Bolos reloaded the bases before Becker was retired on a smash to third.
In the Bulldogs' third, Collins doubled down the right field line and scooted to third on a passed ball. Ferman then punched out Shephard and Tubesing to leave Collins stranded.
Owens helped Centerville's cause by allowing FC no hits over the course of 15 batters faced and no runs– there were four walks and an error in that span.
In the Bulldog fourth, Owens walked but was thrown out at second during the next at-bat; an outfield assist from Bischoff to the shortstop caught Owens napping.
Both Bennett and Woodruff struck out swinging to end the frame. Centerville went down in order in the fifth.
The guests got a leadoff single to center by Shephard to start the sixth and Tubesing walked before a double steal. Owens, Parker and Bennett then swung at strike three, respectively.
Ferman allowed the Bulldogs just two hits. Lake led the offense with a pair of singles.
At Richmond (April 8)
The Cats were even more dominant the next evening, shutting out the host Richmond Red Devils by a 12-0 score and doing it in just five innings.
Bischoff was excellent in the circle, permitting the Devils just two hits, one base on balls and striking out five. She was also one of five girls earning multiple hits; her two singles netted her 3 RBI.
Rolfes was 3-of-3, smacking a double along with two singles and knocking in a pair. Lake had 2 singles, 2 RBI and a stolen base, Bolos 2 singles and 3 RBI and Ferman 2 singles. Becker added a double and RBI while Schell had a single and RBI.
Vs. Northeastern (April 9)
The great week continued Friday when FC kept visiting Northeastern off the scoreboard for a 7-0 win. The Cats put up crooked numbers in the first, fourth and sixth innings.
Ferman was again in command in the middle of the diamond. She whiffed 14 Lady Knights while allowing just two hits and four walks.
Rolfes (double), Becker (triple), Bolos (double), Schell (double) and Bischoff each tallied two hits; each added an RBI except for Schell. Freshmen Kendal Cain and Kensee Ferman had the other runs batted in. Bischoff stole 2 bases as Schell, Kylie Lea and Rolfes had one each.
Vs. Lawrenceburg (April 12)
FC snapped a 5-5 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning Monday and held on for a 6-5 win over visiting Lawrenceburg. FC scored four times in the fourth. Michaela Ferman struck out 11 in the complete-game win.
Senior Camryn Brewer paced the offense with a homer and 4 RBI. Schell had a double and triple with an RBI; Bischoff added 2 hits and RBI. Kensee Ferman stroked a double and Lake stole a bag.
FC (4-2) visits Batesville Thursday.
