Lady Wildcats face tough foes

In the extreme August heat, a trio of young Batesville players turned in sub-40 performances in helping to establish a new 9-hole program record of 152.
The score was 24 strokes better than host Franklin County’s respectable 176.
Junior ace Emma Weiler posted an excellent 35 and was joined by freshman sister Addyson Weiler and sophomore teammate Josie Meyer (each with 38). Tori Harpring also shot well to contribute the final score of 41. Scores not tabulated in the team count were a 46 from Madelyn Pohlman, a 53 from Chloe Murphy and a 64 from Taylor Blanton.
FC’s No. 1 player Nicole Mears led the Lady Wildcats with a round of 39 and fellow sophomore Lillie Graf shot a personal best of 41. Sophomore Crystal Calihan toured the course in 45 strokes and senior Kelsie Brackney landed a 51. Jacy Grimmeissen (53) and Cadence Leffingwell (56) also competed on Thursday.
Batesville and Franklin Co. each traveled to the Lapel Invitational Saturday and took swings at the “Edge” in Anderson along with 13 other talented schools. A 333 placed the Bulldogs in fourth place overall, four strokes back of host Lapel and three ahead of Westfield. Hamilton Southeastern won the event with 301 shots. FC finished in 13th as the Cats totaled 377.
E. Weiler had an 18-hole score of 74 and Meyer turned in 77. Calihan led the way for the Wildcats, shooting an 88. Mears carded a 90 and Graf a 96; Brackney rounded the course in 103 shots and Grimmeissen needed 106.
The Connersville Invitational is Saturday at Willowbrook Country Club.
