By Chris Louden -
Batesville's Noah Pierson made a nice short kick into the back of the net to put Batesville up by one within the first two minutes of play. Batesville's Ethan Goodin then scored two more first half goals, and Eli Pierson added another that was just out of the reach of Patriots' goalie Rhett Hollen; that last score put the Bulldogs up 4-0 at the close of the first half. The second half was no different than the first for Batesville, with Noah Pierson quickly scoring again twice to start things off. He finished with three goals on the night in six attempts. Ian Carpenter had the assist on the final of Pierson's three goals, then he broke free to get open on the next possession and scored a goal for himself. Batesville dominated time of possession and didn't allow Union County to make a single open shot attempt. Hollen finished the game with 14 saves.
The girls' match was no different as they fell to Batesville 6-0 in their opening season contest. UC senior Sophia Knock finished the game with 25 saves as the Patriots' goalkeeper. Batesville's Elena Kuisel was the top performer of the evening with three goals and an assist. Tristan Rowlett, Olivia Knueven, and Lily Meyer also scored for the Bulldogs in the match. The Lady Patriot defense was able to slow down the Bulldogs' scoring attempts in the second half after allowing four in the first. The Bulldogs were pressured by UC's Keilynn Jones and Kyleigh Payne, who both played aggressively and allowed the Patriots to hold the Batesville girls to only two goals in the second half.
