RUSHVILLE - The Franklin County Wildcats got off to a quick start Friday night, going on an early 12-0 run after the Rushville Lions scored the first basket of the game.

Rushville pulled within seven at the half, but senior Chad Cox took over in the second, hitting five of his seven shots from the field in the half. His 22 points were a game high. A run to end the third had FC up 40-29 over the Lions through three. Rushville paced the Cats in the final period, scoring 13 to FC's 14 points in the frame. The Cats gained their first Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference win of the season and second win in a row, posting the 54-42 road victory.

Jerron Taylor began the contest by hitting a quick jumper and putting the Lions up for their only lead of the game. Franklin County began scoring at will, going on a 12-0 run. Choosing to go inside to senior J.D. Stokes, Cats' point guard Brent Ertel picked up a few easy assists as FC jumped out to an early 10-point lead. The Lions managed a few free throws and a triple from Quentin Cain to end the onslaught before the end of the first. Ertel drained a three-pointer for FC to give the visitors a 15-7 lead after the first period.

The second quarter began with both teams trading baskets. Taylor got hot for the Lions and scored nine of his 19 points to end the half with the Cats in the lead, 27-20. The third period began with Kameron Morton sinking a basket, then Dylan Thompson hitting another to put Rushville within a possession of the Cats. A big basket by Stokes stopped the quick run by the Lions and Cox scored the next six points of the game. FC led going into the final frame, 40-29.

The Cats shot 6-of-12 in the fourth from the field but just 2-of-6 from the charity stripe in the period. Rushville only mustered a 4-of-11 performance but went 4-of-7 from the line. Jack Laker hit two of the Lions' field goals in the final quarter and a deep three from Taylor put the scoreboard at 54-42, which held until the buzzer.

Ertel also landed in double figures for the guests, putting in 11 points.

In JV action from Friday night, the Wildcats' JV squad had a thrilling victory on a buzzer-beater by Landen Wuestefeld to beat the Rushville JV 41-40.
At South Ripley (Dec. 11)

Coach Mark Foster's squad then won for the third consecutive time Saturday night in Versailles, on fire throughout the contest to handily defeat the South Ripley Raiders, 62-38.

Before halftime, it was FC sinking seven 3-pointers to build a 38-27 advantage at intermission.

Two Ertel triples in the opening period helped FC sprint out to a 21-9 lead going into the second frame and Cox scored seven early tallies.
Cox then rolled up a dozen more points over the next eight minutes, he and Ertel adding threes in the stanza.

Bolos had the hot hand late in the third quarter, scoring seven of his 10 points to aid in FC's commanding 55-34 spread.

Cox went for a game-high 28 points, giving him a 23.7 scoring average over the 3-game winning streak (20.2 overall). Ertel finished with 11 for a second straight night.

FC (3-2, 1-2) has another EIAC clash Saturday night, as the unbeaten Greensburg Pirates come to town. The Bucs have defeated their early opponents by a 24.3 average margin. Also be on the look
