The first four positions for the designated home team skated past their counterparts in a relatively quick manner, with the top two singles matches ending within seconds of each other for OA’s decisive team points.
Oldenburg and coach Mark Wilder gained their first point of the night when Emma Back and Evelyn Storms finished off Grace Roth and Rae Ertel on the No. 1 doubles court, 6-0, 6-1.
The next two finals would clinch the match for the Twisters. At No. 1 singles, Teresa Wanstrath finished strong to win the second set over FC’s Allie Routh in shutout fashion (6-0) after taking the opening set 6-1. A split second later, Mimi Wilder was walking off the No. 2 court following a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Elise Klei.
Alyssa Wanstrath then eventually overcame Kacie Williams at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3. The visiting Wildcats and coach Katrina Huerkamp would fend off the shutout loss by capturing the No. 2 doubles match; Kaylin Knapp and Nicole Mears defeated Isabel Price and Mary Hunter by a 7-5,
3-6, 10-3 (super tiebreak) decision.
The guests had the edge in junior varsity play. Halee Barker and Katherine Apsley defeated Lana Lischkge and Mia Keller in doubles, 8-2, while Regan Barker and Lola Mann beat Jordan Hardig and Kloie Lehman in pairs, 8-1. OA’s Evie Vanderpohl won an 8-2 singles pro set over Chloe Cowen.
Earlier in the week, FC posted a 4-1 win at Connersville. Klei won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1, as did Roth/ Ertel, 6-3, 7-5, and the team of Cowen and Knapp, 6-4,
7-6 (7-1). Williams needed to three sets to subdue her Spartan foe (6-2, 4-6, 6-3). Routh was defeated 6-2, 6-1.
R. Barker, Mann and H. Barker/Apsley won traditional sets in JV play.
Thursday, it was a 5-0 win over Union County. Routh and Williams won 6-0, 6-1 and Mears/Knapp won 6-1, 6-0. Klei blanked her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Ertel/Roth won 6-3, 6-2. JV went 4-0.
Monday, South Dearborn got just one game off the Wildcats, falling 5-0 and 6-0, 6-0 in every varsity match but No. 2 singles and that was 6-1, 6-0. The JV team won 3-0.
FC (10-3, 5-2) will play in the EIAC tournament starting Thursday in Greensburg.
