Union County shut out the Shenandoah Lady Raiders, 9-0, this week in the first game of the IHSAA Class 2A Softball Sectional at Union County.

“We allowed no hits. We had no walks. We had no errors,” UC coach Scott Gray said. “Chloe Greene just pitched a perfect game. It’s hard to step out in her first sectional game and pitch like that.”

Greene finished with 12 strikeouts and no walks in the shutout.
Union County took their time. Then, after three scoreless innings, the Lady Pats jumped out to a 4-0 lead.

Sophia Knock singled and Shelby Hill’s hit up the middle moved Knock to third. Then, Greene reached first on an error and Bailey Mathews drew a walk to fill the bases. Roya Walton’s RBI single brought Knock home.

Two outs later, Tori Russell’s 2 RBI hit up the middle scored two runners and a 5-0 Union County lead.

Knock opened the fifth inning with a triple to right field and Hill walked but failed to complete the circle.

In the sixth inning UC scored four runs on five hits to set the final score at 9-0.
Russell, Annalea Adams, Knock and Hill all had two hits in four at bats.

“Best game we’ve ever played,” Gray said. “We just take one game at a time. Played Shenandoah tonight, play Hagerstown tomorrow and that’s as far as it goes – you gotta win to meet somebody else. You gotta win one game at a time.”
