The 5th annual Franklin County baseball team fundraiser will feature former Cincinnati Reds catcher Corky Miller. The event takes place on Saturday, Dec. 11 at Third Place.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner will be served at 7 p.m. and Miller the featured speaker will begin at 8 p.m. Tickets for the event are $60 each and attendees of the event must be at least 21 years of age.

This year will be the fifth year for the “Night with a Legend” event. The event was started by former Wildcat coach – and Reds manager - Dave Miley in 2016 with Marty Brennaman as the guest speaker. Former speakers include Tom Browning ('17), Ron Oester ('18) and George Foster ('19). Miller will entertain the guests at this year's fundraiser, which takes place annually on the second Saturday in December.

Miller signed with the Cincinnati Reds as an undrafted free agent in 1998. He made his major league debut in 2001 and was a member of the Reds until 2004. He went on to play with the Twins, Braves, White Sox and Red Sox before making his way back to the Reds organization in 2009 and remained until his retirement after the 2014 season. Miller currently coaches the Dayton Dragons, the high-single A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. He began coaching in 2015 as a catching instructor for the Reds organization. In 2020 - when Covid canceled the minor league season - Miller joined the independent Joliet Slammers as manager for one season.

The “A Night With A Legend” is a fundraiser that supports the Wildcats' baseball program. The first year, jerseys for the team were purchased with the proceeds. This year, head coach Derek Stang stated the proceeds will go towards a windscreen for the outfield fence and either warmup jackets or sweatshirts depending on the amount of money raised. This year's fundraiser includes a basket raffle, door prizes and silent auction, along with a lasagna dinner and appetizers. Cincinnati Reds owner Bob Castellini has donated a big-ticket item that includes box seats and autographed memorabilia from the Reds. Local businesses have donated baskets to the raffle and the Cats' baseball team will have four baskets, one from each class to raffle off. (See list below)

If you would like more info on the event or if you would like to just donate to the Franklin County high school baseball program, you can contact Coach Stang at 765-265-3046 or Missy Burton at 513-535-7838.
