Union County’s cross country teams were busy during the past week, competing in three invitationals at Centerville, Connersville and Shelbyville’s Golden Bear before heading to the Tri-Eastern Conference meet at Union City this Saturday, Oct 2.

The home team Centerville Bulldogs ran away with the boys and girls first place trophies and individual first place runners as well. Senior Bulldog Mylan Nocton finished 26 seconds ahead of Richmond sophomore Alex Arihuela and junior Lady Bulldog Chloe Scales outran Randolph Southern senior Olivia Keesling by 25 seconds.

Northeastern boys and East Central girls were team winners at Connersville. NE junior Chase Cates (17:21) finished in front of Centerville’s Nocton to win the boys race and East Central junior Rachel Campbell (20:52) squeaked past Delta senior Makayla Robles (20:54) to finish first.

Bradley Meadows led the UC boys at Centerville followed by Jack Hodgkin, Landon Pearson, Logan Boone and Jack Dodd.

At Connersville, Hodgkin was UC’s lead runner and Meadows second.
The Golden Bear Invite last Saturday welcomed 25 boys teams and 22 girls teams to the Blue River Course.

Mt. Vernon (Fortville) took home the boys trophy and Columbus North picked up the girls trophy.

Individually, Mt. Vernon junior Tristan Trevino won the boys race in 16:20, and New Palestine senior Emma Mann was the girls champion.

The UCHS boys and girls cross country team will be at Union City this Saturday, Oct 2, for the Tri-Eastern Conference meet. One week later, Oct 9, the IHSAA cross country sectional will take place at Connersville High School.
