Stirn dominated Triton Central’s Alex Crouse 6-0, 6-0 in Match 1 of the individual state regional Saturday at Fishers High School and ended his triumphant day with a 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 comeback victory over Adam Cox of Southmont.
Now Stirn becomes the first singles player in Brookville High School/FCHS history to play in the state finals following his regional championship weekend. Athletic Director Denny Dorrel confirmed the school has had doubles teams go as far, but never for solos.
His state finals adventure begins Saturday morning at Carmel High School with a semifinal matchup against senior Aidan William of West Lafayette at 10 a.m. Stirn stands at 24-0 overall in his senior year, with six of the wins coming in the postseason. William owns a 27-1 record (8-0 in tourney action).
The second semifinal pits Alex Antonopoulos of North Central (16-1, 6-0) against the winner of Culver Military’s Constantino Oberto (18-3, 6-0) and North Posey’s Max Renshaw (22-1, 5-0); that quarterfinal takes place Friday afternoon.
Should Stirn advance, he could bring a state title back to Franklin County. The championship bout will start at 2 p.m. Saturday on Carmel’s courts.
CHS is located on East 136th Street in Carmel. Daily tickets are digital-only and $5 apiece and must be purchased in advance at gofan.co.
Stirn is the son of Connie (Ratz) Stirn and Andy Stirn, who spent time at No. 1 singles for Brookville’s boys team in the late 1980s.
