Boys of Fall– Patriots stop Tigers 27-12 during a special military appreciation night

Union County posted its second win of the season last week at Curry/Phenis Field, beating the visiting Hagerstown Tigers, 27-12, in a game of two halves.
“At halftime we just reminded them of what we are honoring tonight and to believe in themselves,” UC coach Joel Hofmann said. “We wanted it tonight on the night we honor our military.”
Ragen Bias and Evan Wolf teamed up for the first touchdown midway through the first quarter. Bias found Wolf on a third down and goal with a 4-yard passing TD. UC up 8-0.
Hagerstown countered with back-to-back touchdowns before the end of the first quarter to set the score at 12–8 in favor of the Tigers. That score held until late in the third quarter when the Patriots struck again.
UC completed a 42-yard touchdown drive on a third down with Bias hitting Blake Richards from 16-yards out and UC fans roared. UC 14 Hagerstown 12.
“The (fan) support was great tonight,” Hofmann said. “They were rockin’ it and we needed it.”
UC fans spent a great deal of time on their feet applauding play after play, especially in the second half.
UC’s fumble recovery before the end of the third quarter set up the Patriots’ third TD drive in five plays. On a first down and goal to go, Bias carried it in to up the score to 20-12.
In the fourth quarter, Hagerstown ran one play from scrimmage before Michael Eversole intercepted a Hagerstown pass to put UC’s offense back on the field. Twelve plays and 80 yards later, Bias ran 29 yards for the TD and kicked the PAT.
The Tigers scored a touchdown with 3 minutes on the clock but a pair of Tiger penalties wiped it out.
“Our defense stopped them down there a couple times,” Hofmann said. “Defense won it tonight.”
The game ended with Hagerstown on the move before UC sacked the quarterback to end the game, UC 27, Hagerstown 12 and UC fans voiced their approval one more time.
