Union County opened the baseball season at Randolph Southern last week with a lopsided 19-7 win over the Rebels.

Randolph Southern led,  2-1, after the first inning but fell behind 3-2 in the top of the third and the Patriots’ best was yet to come.

UC put up nine runs in the fourth inning from RBIs of Kyle Sams, Brady Woeste, Josh Klein and Eric Burdine. 

John Ridenour’s no hits, two runs and five strike-outs in two-and-a- third innings on the mound.

The Patriots added another seven runs in the top of the fifth to push ahead, 19-2.

The Rebels bounced back in the bottom of the fifth with five runs created on four walks, a fielder’s choice and an error.

Union County finished with 14 hits to Randolph Southern’s one in five innings. 

Burdine, Blake Richards, Nate Reffitt, and Sams all had multiple hits for the Patriots. Richards and Burdine had three hits to lead UC. Always on the move, two Patriots stole two bases and Richards three.
