The Franklin County Wildcats faced the Connersville Spartans on the road last Tuesday. Adam Daugherty was on the mound for the Cats in the conference matchup. Daugherty toed the rubber for all seven innings, allowing just four hits, walking just three Spartans, and not allowing a single run for the shutout victory. The Wildcat offense was cold until the sixth inning when Kristian Prows knocked in Remy Watters to score the lone run in the ballgame. Brayden Lykins was on the mound for Connersville and lost his second game in a row by a score of 1-0.
FC completed the season sweep of rival Connersville with a home 7-6 win Friday. CHS led 4-2 after two complete but the Cats tied things in the third. A 3-spot in the bottom of the fifth proved to be the difference. Brant Ertel (home run), Prows and Daugherty (double) each had a pair of knocks with Daugherty driving home 3 and Ertel 2. Xander Rodriguez had an RBI. Watters added a double. Ertel gave up four unearned runs and earned the win; Hunter Geis also threw.
The Cats split a doubleheader at Union County Saturday, clobbering the Patriots 22-5 in game one and falling 11-6 in the second matchup.
In the rout, FC scored five times in both the third and fourth frames and posted nine more in the fifth. Ertel homered and doubled among his three hits. Watters (2 doubles), Chase Burton, Daugherty (double), Trevor Moizuk (double) and Rodriguez (double) all had three hits. Prows added a 2-bagger and stolen base; Watters swiped a bag. JD Stokes was your winner and Moizuk pitched one inning.
UC got out to a 6-0 start in game two. The Wildcats got three back in the fourth, but UC matched it in the bottom of the stanza. FC managed three more in the fifth. Watters led the offense with two hits and Daugherty had 2 RBI on a double. Sam Westerfeld doubled and stole a base; Moizuk added a pilfer. Ben Becker suffered the loss with Watters and Moizuk also taking the bump.
FC (5-4, 2-2) has a pair with conference leader Batesville this week, followed by Friday's visit from Hagerstown and a trip to Daleville Saturday.
