East Central’s senior-laden basketball roster accomplished their mission, “Beat Union County.” The 61-40 final score gave seniors of both teams a time to celebrate.

EC coach David Disbro’s  starting five were seniors and the sixth senior entered the game during the first quarter.

Union County recognized three senior members of the boys basketball team on Senior Night – Grady Swafford, Ragen Bias and Reece Watterson.

Swafford stepped up in the second and fourth quarters to nail four 3-pointers on his way to a 15- point, game-high total.

Grady caught hold tonight,” UC coach Alex McCool said. “We had little bit better offensive game tonight. Moved the ball better, Some good screening action and had some pretty good looks.”

The low scoring first quarter (7-2), gave way to double digits in the second period thanks to a pair of seniors scoring from beyond the 3-point line. Caleb Mergenthal and Swafford canned  three each for their respective teams.

After halftime, the Trojans’ defense stepped up to limit the Patriots to six points in the third quarter.

“We began the third quarter with three, four turnovers and they went on a 10-0 run,” McCool said. “We just couldn’t recover from that.”

Although outscored 20-6 in the third period, the Patriots battled back to equal the  Indians, 14-14, in the final period.

“We had better effort tonight. Had good rebounding game tonight,” McCool said. “Hopefully we can keep fixing things and get better.”
