The Union County Patriots snapped a five-game losing string at Cambridge City Monday night. Led by Mason Stewart’s double, double (23 points and 12 rebounds), the Pats defeated the Eagles, 69-59.

“We’ve been playing pretty good halves of basketball the last couple of weeks,” UC coach Alex McCool said through a smile. “But tonight we played 32 minutes of good basketball.”

A pair of sidekicks (Reece Watterson and Ragen Bias) joined Stewart in double figure scores as well. Watterson finished with 12 points and two rebound. Bias had 11 points and, four rebounds.

UC led, 11-10, at the end of the first quarter, and opened the third quarter with a 10-point, 32-22, edge.
“We’ve been working hard,” McCool said. “And guys stepped up and took shots.”

The Eagles came out strong after halftime and came within five, 45-40, after three quarters. 

Lincoln’s scoring trio (Tyler Wyles 21 pts., Aidan Munchel 11, and Alex Bertsch 10). Wyles and Munchel also rebounded well with 14 rebounds  between them.

The Patriots and Eagles went to three-point shots in the final eight minutes. Meadows and Bias struck first from behind the 3-point line. Soon after, Wyles put three through the hoop for theEagles. But at the final buzzer, it was Stewart’s rebound putback that ended the game, Union County wearing smiles for the first time since Jan. 26 and a 56-19 win over Centerville.

Lincoln’s last win was a 52-35 win over Oldenburg Academy on Feb. 12.

Next opponent
Union County hosts Milan this Friday, Feb. 25 before taking on Eastern Hancock on Wednesday, March 2 in the first round of sectional #41 at Hagerstown High School.
