Franklin County's softball team continues to soar, recovering from a narrow loss to conference foe Connersville May 4 (8-7) to sweep New Castle in a doubleheader and back-to-back blowouts of conference rival Lawrenceburg.

In a wild game on youth night, CHS pulled out ahead 5-1 before Kensee Ferman's three-run bomb in the bottom of five changed the lead to 6-5. The Spartans rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to reclaim the lead. The Wildcats had a golden opportunity in the last of the seventh as they loaded the bases with no outs. Only one run came across, however. With two outs, Kiersten Schell sent a screamer down the right-field line that was just inches foul and would have been the game-winner.

Ferman, Brooke Stang (triple) and Maci Lake (RBI) each had 2 hits with Ferman driving in 5. Bailey Kaiser added a single.

In Saturday's twinbill, FC got by the Trojans 5-3 for starters. Several NC errors helped the Wildcats' cause. FC led 2-1 after one and held on. Stang had a pair of singles and a steal. Ferman doubled and drove in 2 and Lake singled with 1 RBI. Tiffany Billman swiped a base.

Michaela “KK” Ferman earned the win, fanning 6 while allowing 6 hits.

In the five-inning shutout, FC outhit New Castle 11-2 and Bree Bischoff was great in the circle with 3 punchouts. The Cats scored six times in the third. Lake (2 RBI, steal), Stang (double, RBI, steal), Schell (double, RBI, steal) and K. Ferman (2 RBI) each had 2 hits. KK Ferman had a triple and RBI and Kassidy Schell a triple and 2 RBI. Josie Rolfes added a single.

Monday, the Cats hosted Lawrenceburg. First order of business was completing a rained-out game from Thursday that had FC up 9-5 in the fourth. The Tigers didn't fare better in the remainder of the game or the new game. They fell 16-5 and 11-1.

Stang and Lake had 4 hits and 4 RBI each in the first contest. Rolfes had 3 hits with Anne Becker and Bischoff getting 2 each. Lake and Stang had stolen bases. Bischoff earned the win.

A six-run third helped FC to the big nightcap win. K. Ferman, Kaiser, KK Ferman and Stang each had a pair of knocks; the Fermans had 3 RBI each. Lake drove in 2. Stang had a steal. KK K'ed nine in just five innings.

FC is headed to Rushville today. This weekend, the Cats are hosting a 6-team invitational featuring four ranked teams. Action starts 6 p.m. Friday as FC faces Eastern Hancock. FC will play Salem Saturday, noon, ahead of the championship and consolation games.
