A decisive sweep of Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference foe Batesville started the week for Franklin County softball.

FC got a 12-0 shutout in game one, scoring the top seven of its lineup in the first inning off Katie Mobley. Brooke Stang hit a leadoff homer to straightaway center. Maci Lake beat out an infield single, stole second and scored on Kensee Ferman's single to left. Rolfes had a base hit to left and Kiersten Schell singled in a run to center. Bailey Kaiser added an RBI single to left and Michaela Ferman walked to load the bases. Bree Bischoff brought in a run with a sacrifice fly to center. Stang's unfielded liner back to the pitcher served as another RBI.

BHS had its only hit in the top of one, a double by Emma Belter. FC added five more runs in the third. Bischoff reached on a fielding error and Kassidy Schell tripled to right. Stang doubled to left to bring in Schell and Lake's subsequent single to left scored Stang with a new FC single-season record for runs scored at 36. Rolfes launched a 2-run homer to right-center.

Game 2 didn't go much better for the Bulldogs as FC won 17-1, dropping an 8-spot in the fifth. K. Ferman had 3 RBI, Annie Hoff 2, Tiffany Billman 2 (double, homer), Stang 2 and Rolfes 2 (double). Stang stole 2 bases and Lake 1. Bischoff needed just 5 innings for the win, striking out 4.

South Dearborn was in town Thursday, taking a 4-3 win with two runs in the top of six. Stang (triple, steal) had 2 RBI and K. Ferman 1. Bischoff took the loss.

FC hosted a tourney over the weekend, starting with a 5-2 defeat of Eastern Hancock. Lake (double, homer) and Kaiser (homer) each had 2 RBI and K. Ferman drove in 1. Stang stole 2 bases. M. Ferman pitched a complete game, fanning 7. The Cats also topped North Decatur 8-5. Ki. Schell (double) knocked in 2 with Lake (double), the Fermans, Stang (steal) and Rolfes each collecting 1 RBI. Ka. Schell tripled. Bischoff whiffed 7 for the win.

Greensburg visits Thursday. Lawrenceburg and FC open the postseason Monday at 6 p.m. Winner plays Rushville at 6 p.m. May 26. The opposite side of the bracket has Batesville-South Dearborn and Connersville-Greensburg. Championship is set for May 27, 6 p.m.
