Boys Track Sectional
Union County’s boys  track & field team of 12 were busy at last week’s IHSAA Boys Track and Field Sectional at Connersville with each member competing in at least two events.

Senior thrower Reece Watterson  and junior Ty Elleman led the Patriots. Watterson placed fourth in the Discus (134’04) and 12th place in the Shot Put (37’00). Elleman ran fifth (45.18) in the 300 meter hurdles.

The top three in each event including ties advance to the regional round.

1600m run - Landon Klingman 27th, 6:37.
3200m run - Landon Klingman 16th, 14:56.
110m hurdles - Peyton Torres-Cruz 16th, 21.26.
300m hurdles - Ty Elleman 5th, 45.18.
4x100m relay - Union County 8th, 47.81 (Caden Coffman, Keaghen Coyle, Logan Harris, Xander Garwood).
4x400m relay - Union County 10th, 4:10 (Caden Coffman, Bradley Meadows, Jack Hodgkin, Ty Elleman).
4x800m relay - Union County 7th, 9:55 (Caden Coffman, Bradley Meadows, Jack Hodgkin, Ty Elleman). 
High jump - Bradley Meadows NH.
Long jump - Logan Harris 8th, 18’04; Peyton Torres-Cruz 18th,  14’02.
Shot put - Reece Watterson 12th, 37’; Jack Witter 18th 29’08.
Discus throw - Reece Watterson 4th, 134’04; Jack Witter 19th, 82’07.

Girls Track Sectional
The Union County girls track team was well represented at the IHSAA Class  2A Track and Field Sectional at Connersville last week.

Katie McCashland, Kaleah Louden, Carly McCashland, Haley Alcorn, Emma Cox and Libby Page qualified for the May 24 IHSAA Class 2A Regional at Franklin Community. 

•Katie McCashland won the 100 meter dash, the long jump and was a member of the winning 4x100 meter relay team.

The UC freshman ran the 100m in 13.18 to reach the finals and came back with a 13.09 run in the finals. At the long jump, McCashland’s winning mark 0f 15’10” was four inches better than second place and 12 inches in front of the third-place mark.

McCashland placed 9th in long jump at regional.

•Kaleah Louden ran the 100 meter hurdle event in 16.92 to win the event for the third time in her high school career.

•Carly McCashland’s 1:04.68 gave her third-place  in the 400 meter dash. She then came back to run as part of the third-place 4x100 meter championship team.

Haley Alcorn and Emma Cox rounded out the 4x100 meter team. 

Libby Page tied for third-place in the high jump and will join the UC runners at regional.

The top three places (including ties) in each sectional event qualify for regional competition.
